A stockpile is feed, not finished product

Iluka's Eneabba description distinguishes earlier screening and concentration phases from the refinery phase and identifies the stockpile as initial feed. The physical presence of material is therefore a different finding from the ability to sell separated products from the refinery.

Record the stockpile's material basis, the process intended to consume it and the source date. A tonnage of mineral concentrate cannot be compared directly with annual separated oxide output. Inventory can support a development case without proving that downstream conversion is already operating.

Separate initial feed security from long-term optionality

A refinery's potential to accept multiple feeds is useful, but each feed needs its own evidence on compatibility, supply timing and commercial access. Keep an existing stockpile separate from a future mine and from third-party material still under discussion. Otherwise a long list of possible sources can disguise dependence on a smaller initial set.

For project assessment, link feed readiness to construction and product milestones. A secure feed source does not complete equipment installation, commissioning or customer qualification. Equally, a completed process plant needs a compatible feed programme rather than a general statement that resources exist nearby.

Make a dated refinery thesis

In an illustrative review, an analyst records initial feed as evidenced but a later replenishment route as conditional on another project. That produces two different monitoring tasks: refinery execution and future feed development. Treating the latter as already available would overstate resilience; ignoring the initial stockpile would understate a genuine part of the industrial proposition.

Keep three Eneabba questions separate
QuestionEvidence boundary
What feed exists?Stockpile material and inventory basis
What can be converted?Refinery scope and operating milestone
What sustains later output?Additional feed readiness and rights

Your review checklist

  • Keep concentrate and oxide units distinct.
  • Separate existing feed from possible future sources.
  • Check compatibility rather than geography alone.
  • Monitor refinery and feed milestones independently.

Frequently asked questions

Can stockpiled concentrate be counted as annual production?

No. It is an inventory measure unless a separate source establishes a period-specific production flow.

Does third-party-feed capability mean feed contracts exist?

No. Technical capability and a disclosed supply commitment are separate evidence.
