Distinguish the manufacturing route
Arnold's technical comparison describes bonded magnets using magnetic powder with a binder, while the sintered route uses a different sequence of consolidation and finishing. The shared NdFeB label does not make the resulting components equivalent.
Record whether your required product is a powder, a moulded component or a finished sintered magnet. Then specify geometry, magnetic requirements and operating conditions under engineering control. These fields determine which manufacturers belong in the comparison before geography or headline scale enters the discussion.

Do not pool unlike capacity
A company's powder capability is not automatically its finished-component capacity. Likewise, a bonded manufacturing line cannot simply be added to a sintered line as a single pool of interchangeable supply. Keep process-specific output and qualification in separate columns.
Ask which tooling, finishing and testing operations the supplier performs and which it outsources. A manufacturer with the right magnetic material may still need additional work to deliver the requested component. The same question matters when comparing a new supplier with an established one: the unit of comparison is the deliverable, not the product-family label.
An illustrative shortlist correction
A search returns three NdFeB businesses: one sells powder, one moulds bonded parts and one finishes sintered magnets. If the requirement is for a particular sintered component, all three should not receive the same capability score. Keep the other businesses as relevant upstream or alternative-design leads, but advance only candidates whose process matches the current brief.
Record the manufacturing scope
| Supplier description | Follow-up |
|---|---|
| Magnetic powder | Who makes the final component? |
| Bonded component | Which binder, process and qualified specification? |
| Sintered magnet | Which finishing and testing scope? |
Your review checklist
- Name the required manufacturing route.
- Compare finished deliverables consistently.
- Keep powder and component capacity distinct.
- Identify outsourced finishing or testing.

Does NdFeB in a company description prove sintered magnet capability?
No. It can refer to powder, bonded products or other activities. Check the disclosed process and output.
Should bonded and sintered suppliers ever be compared?
Yes, where engineering is considering alternative designs, but retain the different performance and qualification requirements.
