Use geological coverage for the right question
Geoscience Australia's AIMR commodity summaries distinguish resources, production and deposit locations. Those are different starting points: a resource inventory helps discover projects, while a supply decision needs evidence about industrial output.
Do not promote a promising deposit into an available supplier because it appears on an official map. Retain the publisher's classification, reporting year and location identifier. Then add current company evidence for the activity that matters to your investigation.
Trace where Australian material is converted
Australian extraction does not imply that every subsequent stage occurs in Australia. For each project, identify the proposed or disclosed concentrate destination, cracking route, separation site and eventual product. A domestic refinery development can change the route without establishing a domestic magnet manufacturing chain.
Keep shared infrastructure visible. Several projects may depend on one proposed processor, or an expansion may use an existing stockpile rather than newly mined material. Comparing project names alone can therefore exaggerate the number of independent ways material reaches the market.
Create a two-horizon shortlist
For an illustrative procurement review, make one view for operating evidence relevant to the delivery window and another for developments with milestones still outstanding. A large resource can remain important to strategy without competing with current output in a near-term ranking. Record what evidence would move each project between the views, such as sustained product results or a disclosed processing agreement.
What an Australian project record should answer
| Question | Record |
|---|---|
| What exists underground? | Resource basis and reporting date |
| What leaves the operation? | Product, quantity basis and period |
| What happens next? | Processing destination and route status |
Your review checklist
- Preserve official source classifications.
- Check the product leaving the site.
- Map offshore conversions separately.
- Separate current sourcing from development monitoring.
Investigate with Oreline
Oreline brings Australian discovery records and reviewed company research into the same investigation. Use those distinctions to find relevant projects, then follow the evidence into processing and commercial relationships instead of stopping at a deposit map.

Does a larger resource imply more annual supply?
No. Annual supply depends on the operating plan, processing capability, recovery and commercial execution.
Should a project using an overseas refinery count as Australian?
Its mine can be Australian while the route is international. Record each stage rather than forcing the whole chain into one country.
