Identify the product before counting supply

Serra Verde announced commercial production of mixed rare-earth concentrate at Pela Ema in January 2024. That is a specific historical milestone, not a statement that the operation supplied separated oxides or finished magnets at that time.

When researching Brazilian candidates, retain whether each output is mineral concentrate, mixed chemical material or an individually separated product. A rare-earth-oxide-equivalent figure describes a measurement basis; it does not necessarily describe the physical product leaving the site.

Connect geology to the commercial route

A deposit's material mix can make it interesting for magnet supply, but contained elements are not automatically recovered, separated or available for your order. Seek test results, product specifications and the identity of the next processor. Avoid assuming that all projects sharing a geological description can use the same conversion route.

Check the destination of disclosed sales or processing agreements. A new extraction geography may still rely on an established separation centre abroad. That can be commercially viable while delivering a narrower diversification benefit than the phrase new supply suggests.

Frame the next diligence request

In an illustrative comparison, one project reports a mixed product with a customer agreement and another advertises a large resource but no producing plant. Ask the first about separated-product destinations and current allocation; ask the second about development and processing milestones. Applying the same generic supplier questionnaire to both would miss their very different decision points.

Your review checklist

  • Name the physical product.
  • Retain the reporting period.
  • Identify the next conversion destination.
  • Keep geological potential separate from current delivery.

Frequently asked questions

Does a Brazilian mine remove all China exposure?

Not automatically. Exposure depends on the subsequent conversion and manufacturing stages used for the relevant product.

Is mixed concentrate less valuable research evidence than oxide output?

It answers a different question. It can establish extraction or intermediate supply, but not the availability of a separated product by itself.
